Helping you set your new personal endurance record through extreme consistency in training. Great adventures through great fitness!
I've been an endurance athlete for over 40 years (run, triathlon, xc ski) and have been coaching since 2010. More importantly, I have an incredibly supportive wife and son that are the center of my life and I have learned to incorporate my training and racing in a way that minimizes any impact to family life. I have been a USA Triathlon certified coach and am currently an Ironman Certified Coach. In addition, I will soon receive my certification as an Ultrarunning Coach. But, my accomplishments and certifications in the sport mean nothing if I cannot translate my experience and knowledge to an athlete's particular family, work, and athletic situation.
Having said that, I feel that my good fortune in competing in college track and cross country, completing 100 mile ultras, qualifying for the Boston Marathon 10 times, the Ironman 70.3 World Championship twice, the World Duathlon Championships twice, and narrowly missing out on qualifying for the Ironman World Championship in Kona twice (8 Ironman finishes total), enables me to know what it takes to achieve one's goals.
I prefer a collaborative relationship with my athletes rather than one in which the coach simply writes out a plan and the athlete blindly tries to squeeze it into their busy schedule. I need to know how your family and work obligations affect the amount and timing of your available training hours. Frequent communication and feedback are critical to making sure that "the plan" is working or needs tweaking to fit your situation. In other words...it's all about YOU, your GOALS, and your PROGRESS.
I never use stock training plans, so you can rest assured that every workout I assign has been planned to fit your unique situation. I am well versed in the use of power meters on the bike and run (Stryd) and how to use power data to optimize your training. All athletes in my training squad receive a Trainingpeaks Premium account to which workouts are delivered weekly and athletes' daily workout data are uploaded for me to inspect and analyze. In addition, I use WKO4 and WKO5 software to refine analysis of your training data and make sure your training is on track. Although the use of power meters is becoming more common, it is by no means a requirement in order to join our training squad.
